How to prepare for hair laser removal?
Laser hair removal treatments are an effective solution for long-term hair removal. To get the best before and after laser hair removal results, it’s important to follow the laser hair removal pre-care steps.
Getting ready to have laser hair removal is actually more about what not to do.
Before your appointment:
- DO NOT wax, tweeze or sugar the are to be treated 1 month before the laser hair removal treatment.
Laser hair removal uses the hair shaft as a conduct to transfer laser energy down into the unwanted hair follicle and destroy it. If unwanted hair is pulled out before the procedure, the laser energy has no way to travel into the follicle, and therefore cannot destroy it. This is how we achieve the result of unwanted hair loss. If you pull out the hair from the root, the laser beam will simply have nothing to target, and the procedure will be ineffective. Restoration of hairs after mechanical removal lasts about 3-4 weeks.
- DO NOT tan or use tanning products for 14 days before and after the treatment of laser hair removal.
Just because tanning makes your skin hypersensitive as well as the laser light causes the same effect. It’s important not to double this effect. Moreover we highly recommend using SPF cream on the treated area after each procedure to avoid hyperpigmentation.
- DO NOT use skin care products on the area to be treated 8-12 hours before the appointment
This list includes moisturizers, oils, makeup, perfumes, deodorant, antiperspirant, powder, or any kind of topical medication.
- Cleanly shave 10-12 hours before the appointment.
Shaving the target area increases the effectiveness of the laser treatment, while also reducing the discomfort of the laser therapy.
- Wear comfortable clothes on the day of your appointment.
You might experience some irritation in the area after your laser hair removal treatment. To avoid further irritation from your clothing, choose loose and breathable clothing, made of natural fabrics.
